Kochi Dec. 6 The National Multi-Commodity Exchange of India (NMCE) has opened warehouses in Vandanmedu and Kattappana in the spice-growing Idukki district of Kerala for pepper and cardamom growers of the region. The warehouses having storage capacities of 3,000 tonnes each are expected to solve the long-pending storage problems of small and marginal growers of both pepper and cardamom in the spice hills, a press release from NMCE said.
Extending support
"With the new warehousing facility in place, the growers have been relieved from hunting for storage facilities. The exchange is willing to extend all possible support to the growers in terms of providing such facilities which could lessen their burden. The exchange is here to promote growers and their produce and to help them in better price discovery," Mr Kailash Gupta, Managing Director of NMCE, said.
Bowing to the demands of the growers to make the price quoted in the exchange screen VAT-exclusive, Mr Gupta said the demand had been accepted and would be implemented soon. |
